Simple Faith

Luke 9:37-45 A father brings his child to Jesus for healing. He had begged the disciples to cast the demon out of his son, but they were unable. Power is found in our weakness, when we understand that we don’t have the power needed, but we simply come to Him who does and surrender to His will.

The Crucified Life

Luke 9:23-27 Self denial, daily cross bearing, and following. The result of the saving grace of our Lord. There is a fundamental difference between believers, true disciples of Jesus, and the rest of the world not only in our confession of His identity but also in our response to who He is and what He has done that we might be saved. Though we are great sinners, we have a great savior, enough to save us from the consequence, the…

Jesus Identity Revealed

Luke 9:18-20 Luke’s gospel account has been building toward the climax of Luke’s purpose for writing the book. Jesus identity seems to be in focus, but more than just His identity. We see in this passage both a focus on “who Jesus is” and how men respond to Him. Here we find the most important question anyone could ever be asked, and it is a question everyone must answer: “Who do you say Jesus is?”

How Do We Respond to Sin?

We are all sinners, and sin has many consequences. So what does a godly response to personal sin look like? Psalm 51 gives us a great look at the Christian response to sin.

Be Careful How You Hear

Luke 8:16-21 Jesus continues his teaching of the sowers He is going to send into the world to proclaim the gospel. True believers listen evangelistically, making known the spiritual truth we have been taught. They listen practically by applying that truth to their own lives, and they listen obediently obeying the Lord in submission to His will.

Parable of the Soils: Part 1

Luke 8:4-8. In the parable of the soils we find one of Jesus best known teachings, but there are some cultural truths that if we don’t understand we could come to some faulty understandings from the passage.

Going Forward in Unity

Numbers 13-14. Phil Webb shares a great message about possible hindrances to unity in the church. Are we focused on the God we worship or is our gaze fixed on problems, familiar territory, and selfish agenda’s?

Forgiveness: The Cancelling of Debt

Luke 7:36-50. Jesus, invited to a meal with Simon the Pharisee tells a parable of a moneylender and two debtors. Which one loves the moneylender more? Obviously the one forgiven the most. Jesus relays this story to the situation at that meal. A woman came with much love for Jesus because of the forgiveness she had received.

Beatitude Living

Luke 7:1-10. A Centurion seeks Jesus healing for his slave who is at the point of death. Genuine faith is seen in this man, where as the Jews around him demonstrate a worldview completely the opposite. A living example is seen in the Centurion of what it looks like to live the beatitudes.
