Christmas From Eternity Past: Part 1
John 1:1-5 Where does the gospel of Jesus Christ begin? Mark begins with the teaching ministry of Jesus in roughly 30A.D. Matthew and Luke both back up and begin in 4 B.C with the birth of Jesus. But is that the beginning? Praise God we have four gospel accounts, because John takes us to the true beginning.
Lifting the Burden
Luke 13:10-17 Jesus heals a woman on the Sabbath which causes the ruler of the synagogue to become angry and demand that people not come for healing on the Sabbath. Jesus rebukes this idea and shows that the Sabbath is given as a mercy to man.
Woe to You!: Words We Don’t Want to Hear
Luke 11:37-54 Jesus confronts the Pharisees and experts in the law of God with a series of curses. Moralism can’t save, and Jesus shows that as He confronts these false teachers.
A Kingdom Divided Falls!
Luke 11:14-23 Jesus is confronted by some who claim that His miracles are works of the power of Satan. In His response, Jesus shows the absurdity and error of their thinking. A Kingdom divided cannot stand. There is a need for Christians to know when to separate, and wisdom needed to understand when we are to be united.
Away From the Manger
Philippians 2:5-11 So often the world love the Jesus of the manger but takes Him no further than that baby. But what did He come for? In Philippians 2 we see that Jesus is very special.
Who is Jesus? According to Jesus
John 8:43-59 Jesus responds to the question of the religious leaders of the Jews who ask this all important question: “Jesus who do you make yourself out to be?” The answer is simple and very clear.
The must’s of Jesus
Luke 9:21-22 Jesus make it clear that there are some things that must happen in His life and ministry. He must suffer many things, be rejected, be killed, and rise again. As we examine these things we see the gospel message clearly presented.
Are You The One?
Luke 7:18-23 John the Baptist in jail sends his disciples to ask Jesus one question: Are you the one expected, or should we expect another? No other person in history can we say was expected to come, but Jesus was. Very specific details of who He would be, what He would do were given hundreds of years before His birth. John’s question is of the utmost of importance. Is Jesus this one promised?
Blessing and Curse
Luke 6:17-26. Jesus chooses his disciples then proceeds to teach them how to preach. He does this by preaching the greatest sermon ever preached, what we know as the Sermon on the Mount. He begins with a series of blessings and curses. The heart of the gospel message is found in these beatitudes. God’s work in the heart of a man shows itself in spiritual poverty, hunger for righteousness, mourning over sin.
Good Friday! What makes it good?
To understand why what we celebrate at Easter is good, we need to go all the way back to the days of Moses in the land of Egypt. God directed the Israelites to take the blood of a lamb and mark their doorposts to be a sign to them and to Him, that the destroyer would not touch them. God was working both deliverance and judgement in the same works, but it worked differently for His people than it did…
