To understand why what we celebrate at Easter is good, we need to go all the way back to the days of Moses in the land of Egypt. God directed the Israelites to take the blood of a lamb and mark their doorposts to be a sign to them and to Him, that the destroyer would not touch them. God was working both deliverance and judgement in the same works, but it worked differently for His people than it did for those who oppose Him.
