Sermons on Sovereignty (Page 2)
Teach Us To Pray: Part 2
Luke 11.1-4 Jesus teaches the disciples to pray with a model of prayer completely focused on God. He is our Father, He is holy, He is sovereign ruler and we should pray that His kingdom would come, and His will be done on earth like it is in heaven.
Lambs in the Midst of Wolves
Luke 10:1-16 Jesus expands the ministry beyond the twelve apostles as he sends out the seventy to preach the kingdom of God. This is a critical mission, and one filled with much danger. He gives instruct on how to respond to those who receive the message, and those who reject. It would be better on the day of judgement for the city of Sodom them for those who reject the message of Christ.
Jesus Identity Revealed
Luke 9:18-20 Luke’s gospel account has been building toward the climax of Luke’s purpose for writing the book. Jesus identity seems to be in focus, but more than just His identity. We see in this passage both a focus on “who Jesus is” and how men respond to Him. Here we find the most important question anyone could ever be asked, and it is a question everyone must answer: “Who do you say Jesus is?”
The Transformation of a Man
Luke 8:26-39 Jesus and His disciples encounter a man with many demons. Jesus heals him and the people witness the transformation of this man whom they have known.
Calming the Storm
Luke 8:22-25 Jesus and His disciples sail across the sea of Galilee and encounter a storm. The fearful disciples awake Jesus with desperate pleas for help. Jesus demonstrates His authority to new heights as He calms this storm. He then asks the question we would never want Jesus to ask us: “Where is your faith?”
Parable of the Soils: Part 2
Luke 8:9-15. Jesus gives explanation to two questions which the disciples ask: Why do you speak in parables? What does the parable mean? This parable has much for us today. Four soil types, reflective of four conditions of the heart. The word of God fall on all four producing two results. One grows fruit, three do not. Which one are you?
Young Man, Arise!
Luke 7:11-17. Jesus comes to the small town of Nain where He meets a funeral procession. Who is Jesus? Luke shows us the answer as Jesus raises this young man from the dead.
Good Friday! What makes it good?
To understand why what we celebrate at Easter is good, we need to go all the way back to the days of Moses in the land of Egypt. God directed the Israelites to take the blood of a lamb and mark their doorposts to be a sign to them and to Him, that the destroyer would not touch them. God was working both deliverance and judgement in the same works, but it worked differently for His people than it did…
Catching Men
Luke 5:1-11. A miraculous catch of fish opens the eyes of Peter, James, and John to the reality of who Jesus is. The result, a glimpse at their own sinfulness, a cry for mercy, and a call to follow. Those men left everything to follow Jesus. Have we?
The Authority of Jesus
Luke 4:31-37. What is your authority? Do you understand where Jesus fits in that question? Here in Luke 4, we see Jesus teaching and those who hear Him are amazed at His teaching, and further at His power behind that teaching.
