Away From the Manger

Philippians 2:5-11 So often the world love the Jesus of the manger but takes Him no further than that baby. But what did He come for? In Philippians 2 we see that Jesus is very special.

Examining Fruit

Luke 6:43-49. What does the fruit in your life look like? Is it good fruit? Jesus teaching in the Sermon on the Mount consistently paints the picture of two men: The blessed and the cursed. In today’s passage Jesus speaks of the fruit of a man’s life as evidence of which one of those categories he belongs in.

Lord of the Sabbath

Luke 6:1-11. The rules and regulations of the Pharisees for proper observance of the Sabbath were burdensome to Jews, and only a self-righteous man could not see the impossibility of actually keeping each detail. Jesus uses the Sabbath to teach that God is concerned with the heart, not the externals of a man.

Calling Sinners

Luke 5:27-32. In this text we see the calling of Levi (Matthew) to follow Jesus. A call to a sinner to repentance. A call to faith in Christ. What hope is found in this passage, as we see a man most in the culture would have said was too much of a sinner to even be saved.

Beginning Jesus Ministry

Luke 3:21-38. We see in today’s passage the beginning of Jesus earthly ministry as He presents Himself publically to be baptised by john the Baptist. Why? John’s baptism was that of repentance for the forgiveness of sin, but Jesus had no sin. So why would he submit to such a baptism? We also look at Luke’s genealogy of Jesus which differs from Matthew’s gospel. Why the difference?
